The filmmaker has given the world the legendary figure of the demonic gravedigger known as Coffin Joe. He is the hero of a trilogy that started in 1963 with At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul, the first Brazilian horror film ever, continued four years later with This Night I Will Possess Your Corpse and culminates with Embodiment of Evil. After forty years in prison, the evil gravedigger is released. Coffin Joe moves to the slums with his followers that worship him, and while haunted by the ghosts of his victims he continues his search for the perfect woman to bear him a son. The film blends primitive mysticism, Christianity, gore, perversity and depravity into a surreal initiatory experience.
