Pakistan’s first gore film, Hell’s Ground is an affectionate tribute to the golden era of Pakistani film of the 1960s, an era that had among other classics spawned The Living Corpse which is also part of this year’s shockproof programme. After lying to their parents and running off to see a rock concert, five teenagers leave their suburb neighbourhood of Islamabad and travel into the wild only to have their van break down and they get set upon by not only flesh eating zombies, but a ghoulish hitchhiker and a blood-soaked, burqa-wearing killer. Aside from being a fan of horror movies the first time director Omar Khan runs a well known chain of ice cream shops called The Hot Spot.
