In the 1980s, college student Samantha takes a strange babysitting job that coincides with a full lunar eclipse. She slowly realizes her clients harbour a terrifying secret… The House of the Devil is one of the last year’s most critically acclaimed horrors and certainly one of the best American horror movies in recent years. The film avoids the noisy and excessive clichés of today’s terror flicks and very consciously mimics the style and feel of 1980s horror. Writer-director Ti West manages to bring the contemporary seen-it-all audience to a jittery state of unnerving anticipation. After all, sometimes it's the anticipation, not the happening, that's the fun.
