This rarely seen gem is also one of the sleaziest of its kind. Financed by homicidal porn mogul Mike Thevis, Poor Pretty Eddie covers just about every type of exploitation there is while at times being consciously arty. Inspired by Jean Genet‘s play The Balcony, the film tells the sordid tale of a black singer from the big city, who finds herself stranded in a backwoods redneck nightmare as the unwilling guest of an obsessive wannabe country singer. Hallucinatory to the extreme, the film features a prolonged slo-mo rape scene intercut with shots of a pair of dogs humping, verbal racial abuse, horrific Elvis impersonations, and a feverish climax that brings new meaning to the term shotgun wedding. Yes folks, Poor Pretty Eddie does all the things you like… to forget.
