Brussels based directing duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani follow up their 2009 debut Amer with another hit from the giallo pipe, The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears. A visual masterpiece that will confuse, confound and hypnotize you as it’s one of the most cinematically extravagant explorations of the gaudy and grotesque ever committed to film. The nominal story is that of a man who returns home from a trip abroad to find his apartment locked yet empty and his wife mysteriously missing. But it doesn’t take long for the film to descend down a gory rabbit hole into a kaleidoscopic labyrinth of gleaming blades, blood-curdling screams and psychosexual violence, tapping layers of dreams so deep it makes Inception seem like a light nap.
