Computers and Satan, two things that go great together! Under the Video Recordings Act of 1984, a number of films were banned in the UK. Some were censored for gore, some for imitable violence. Evilspeak was censored, in part, because it features Satanic rituals. A very simple revenge-of-the-nerd story revolves around the endearingly homely Stanley Coopersmith – played to a sweaty perfection by Clint Howard – a military cadet of low social standing who is systematically ridiculed and tortured by his classmates, until he snaps and becomes a Satanist bent on bloody revenge. Soon Stanley’s using the school’s Apple II computer to conduct black magic, including the summoning of a bunch of evil, flesh-eating devil pigs. Nice.
