Holding true to the instrument of destruction after which it is named, the 1983 film Sledgehammer will bludgeon your psyche until all that remains is an unrecognizable pulpy mass. Prior to unleashing on the world such shockproof favourites like Killer Workout or Deadly Prey, writer-director David A. Prior together with his acting brother Ted honed their skills on this homemade slasher. Shot directly on tape, the film features insane amounts of slo-mo, freeze frames, primitive fade-outs and colour filters that make it an ultimate treat for all true connoisseurs of VHS-era exploitation. True, Sledgehammer is an ungodly atrocity, but it has a charm that simply slaps you around until you like it.
