Be careful, she just might take your heart. From its opening scream of pain to its tender finishing touch, Lucky McKee’s May is one weird horror flick. This is what Carrie might have played like if David Cronenberg were to direct it – less bombastic and gory than creepy and upsetting. The film about a seriously troubled young woman, struggling with her desire to love and be loved, functions for quite some time as a particularly deranged romantic comedy, only to turn into something much darker and disturbing. One of the rare horror films that’s really sad, May is a masterpiece, a one of a kind experience that will frighten you and break your heart at the same time. A-May-zing.
