What better way to celebrate today‘s Independent Czechoslovak State Day, than by screening Howling II: Your Sister Is A Werewolf, probably the only film in movie history in which Jiri Krytinar dies twice. And since this deliciously trashy sequel to Joe Dante’s popular horror The Howling was shot in mid 80's communist Czechoslovakia, you can look forward not just to this legendary little big man of Czech cinema, but a whole bunch of assorted Bohemian compatriots. Now patriotic pride aside, Howling II is a gem of it’s own. Horror veteran Christopher Lee stars as Stefan Crosscoe, an occult expert determined to wipe out lycanthropes, in particular those who associate with the fiendish werewolf queen Stirba. This film has it all: horny werewolves, plenty of nudity, zombie midgets, holy grenades, exploding eyes, a puppet bat-dragon and an awesome score performed by Babel. Of course making sense of anything here is a fool’s errand. But if you like hairy breasts, you are going to love this, because you will see them repeatedly. In the pale, pale light, pale, pale light of the moonglow.
