This year our continuous exploration of classic works from the golden era of porn takes us to Germany, where hardcore became legally available and socially acceptable in 1975. And Hans Billian’s Sensational Janine is a classic alright. Based on alleged memoirs of a turn-of-the-century Viennese courtesan Josefine Mutzenbacher, the film looks back on her humble beginnings. The American pornographic film critic Jim Holliday has described this film as possibly one of the best porns of all time. Much of this is down to Patricia Rhomberg, who approaches each carnal obstacle on her “road to ruin” with curiosity and an infectious enthusiasm. The crème de la crème of adult cinema!
