The Shockproof Film Festival and authors of a documentary-in-progress called Kings of VHS decided to put together an informal talk show about a phenomena which excites us, titillates us, exhilarates us, even makes us all touchy-feely: the pirate dubbing of VHS tapes in Czechoslovakia at the turn of 1980s and 1990s. The discussion will be enriched with some samples of authentic dubbed scenes where the over-voice is often funnier than the film itself. Let’s take a trip to the socialist era where English- and German-speaking enthusiasts presented action films, horrors and porn flicks to an eager mob by means of some pretty quirky interpreting. And since this is going to be an English-unfriendly event, this text is utterly pointless. So there you have it.
