Multiple stories collide in Lowlife – the dazzling feature debut of director Ryan Prows – as a Mexican luchador with rage issues, a pregnant drug addict and an ex-con with a swastika tattooed on his face tackle a black market organ dealer. Best described as Pulp Fiction for the Trump era, this is modern exploitation at its best, hitting on current issues like immigration and drug addiction while managing to be unbelievably entertaining, outlandishly funny and sincerely touching. Because above all, this film truly has heart, and somehow finds the humanity in situations that go from comedic to horrific to over the top within a few frames. El Santo would have loved it!
