It was inevitable for Claude Mulot to return to the Shockproof silver screen. After all, what other classic porn film would be better suited to go with this year’s end-of-the-world theme than his entertaining and subversive variation on Dr Strangelove. French adult films of the mid-70’s were indeed works of art, considered the new avant-garde and created by film professionals and young cinephiles from the generation which took to the streets in 1968. And Mulot, also known by his nom de porn Frederic Lansac, was the foremost auteur of the times. His pornographic satire never settles for a mere copy of Stanley Kubrick’s film. Instead it holds is own while poking fun of high society and uncovering the yearnings of the flesh covered up by the bourgeoisie’s false morals. A classy dinner of a wealthy banker’s family and guests turns into a raunchy orgy, while the world is spiralling towards destruction as the Soviet and American leaders argue over the hot line where the best porn films are made.
