A celebration of the International Women’s Day requires a proper chick flick with some well-balanced mixture of heart & gore. And have we got a treat for your, ladies. The debut feature from actor-turned-writer-director Pollyanna McIntosh, Darlin’ is a stand-alone follow-up to Lucky McKee’s vicious cult favourite The Woman. Found at a hospital, the filthy and ferocious feral teenager Darlin‘ is whisked off to a catholic school run by the ominous bishop, where she is to be tamed into a good girl. However, the Woman is out there still looking for her. A gory horror, a pitch-black comedy, an angry social commentary and a thoughtful coming-of-age drama, Darlin’ is a movie that never stops moving and tackles the patriarchy with bloody teeth. Boys will be boys, but watch your ass when girls decide to be girls.
