Once a young American ballet student Suzy enters the bizarre building of a prestigious German dance academy, she finds it difficult to get out of there alive. Dario Argento’s now-classic horror has been often described as a Technicolor nightmare. The master of the Italian giallo genre has gone all out in his first full-blooded supernatural horror, creating an imaginative, dreamlike film full of occultism, dark omens and hellishly gory murders. The Academy building is an expressionist labyrinth of intricate corridors, ubiquitous ornaments and vivid colors - the atmosphere of a bad dream enhanced by the brilliant musical theme by prog rock band Goblin. In 2018, director Luca Guadagnino attempted to retell this classic in a new and different way. It was a thankless task, since to this day Argento’s original has lost virtually none of its spellbinding power.
