Ninja Thunderbolt

It simply had to happen! With this screening The Shockproof Film Festival pays off one of its long overdue debts and finally pays homage to a pair of Greats from the Trash Pantheon. Ninja Thunderbolt is a film of great historical importance as it marks the first time that producer Joseph Lai and director Godfrey Ho spliced their own ninja footage into someone else’s movie, a technique that would become their trademark and spawn over a hundred films throughout the 80s. The delirious masterpiece doesn’t waste time with a coherent plot, serving the audience maximum of straightforward attractions instead: over-the-top car chases, wild fights, loads of smoke bombs, flying shurikens, surprisingly explicit sex scenes, synchronized swimmers, skiers, roller-skating ninjas and many other WTF moments. While grown-up know-it-alls shake their heads in outraged disbelief, pre-pubescent video store patrons as well as today’s thrash connoisseurs are in for an amazing spectacle and a real treat!
