The Butcher of Mons was the nickname of a notorious serial killer who left bags of dismembered female body parts by the roadsides in Belgium. The identity of the killer remains unknown to this day. What if this bestial monster had descendants who carry on his legacy? Megalomaniac became one of the biggest genre surprises at the festival markets. It is a distinctly confrontational horror, both repulsive and shocking, yet haunting and immersive. Megalomaniac dissects many gender stereotypes and anatomically approaches the motif of victim and torturer in an unvarnished way. The seductive baroque cinematography, bizarre set design and ambient score create uncanny tableaux vivants; the set looks like a Francis Bacon canvas in motion, brutal as well as dreamy, wrought with emotions.
